If you can move your gear lever round in a big circle with no resistance like you're stirring a bowl of porridge it could be what Stu says (I had the same thing break)
When you look underneath make sure the gear lever and the gearbox input shaft move together. I had the roll pin (if there is one) fall out on my montego and the lever went sloppy as if the box had gone.
If you can feel it going into gears but have no drive then your clutch could be dead.
