it`s not expensive if summat goes wrong.
And if nothing goes wrong (it has been known to happen that a car is reliable[;)]) then you'll have saved a serious amount of wedge after taking the risk of ordering parts from abroad.

Lifes full of risks - this is just another one.[:)]

What tuners need to do is get rid of there know it all
stroppy attitude. It goes a bit like this how dare you
question me on what I'm doing I know everything don't
you know that[:(!].
I mean when we are spending large amounts of cash we have
a right to now whats going on with are cars but they seem
to think otherwise, It's the take it or leave attitude that
gets on my t1ts and it takes as long as it takes, What sort
of service is that.
You take your engine to get rebuilt and you might get it back
in a year if your lucky[V][:(!][:(!], And all you get when you
phone up is these things take time you know.WA*KERS[V][:(!]
I know of one bloke they had his car for 17 month's I mean how
long does it take to build an bl00dy engine[:(].

thats why I'm building mine myself[^] at least I know the stuff
I'v payed for has been done and fitted. with tuners you have to
take there word it's been done it's a matter of trust and I'm
afraid I don't trust a single one of them[:(][V][:(!].

you now need to slow down and take nice deep breaths cause this is going to come as quite a shock to you.tuners do know best, that`s why we take our cars to them.if they tell us too much about what controls our cars we might fiddle with them and destroy the engine.if they tell us to do something and we don`t do it,then that can destroy the engine.they tune cars as a day job so they should know better than us and that is why i don`t get too involved as i realise they know better.if you knew better than them, then your day job would be tunning cars and putting up with shat from customers along with the blatant lies from suppliers.

as for taking an age for rebuilds, you should try dealing with the useless flockers that tuners have to deal with day in and day out.a certain engineering company took about 4 attempts to get my stroker kit right which cost months in delays.this is the same company that makes an almost identical kit for a well known japanese tuner.i better not say anything about clutch or gearbox manufacturers either [:(!][:(!][:(!]
another thing to remember as well is that they sometimes have to deal with these fly by night suppliers who start a company supplying goods to the tuners and us but know ferk all about what they are supplying or can`t get any tech info then they go bust after about 2 minutes with all of us due money.

there are quite a few of us should try seeing things from a tuners perspective instead of just ranting about delays, prices etc.

btw this is applicable to all tuners as i`ve heard some horror stories that have affected tuners other than dp.

I don't mean I know better than them it's just there refusal to answer
question's. I put a lot of efort in to finding out about what works on
are engines and what doesn't but there all seem to have dif ideas and
any you have are dismissed out of hand. As for timescale why tell someone there engine will be done in a month when you know it will take 6. And as for dodgy supplyers and machine shops[:(] well thats
down to you to find the best and not just the cheapest t0ssers out there if you can't rely on them don't use them[;)] simple aah[^].

And why is it we get are cars not engine put back together by the
yts no brains you all seem to have working for you[?][?][V][:(!]
the last time my car wen't in to a tuner(very well known) it came
out with the wishbones not done up and loose engine mounts I could
of been killed funny ah.

Now I'm not saying your the same gtir369 because you have a good
rep[^][8D] but you all seem to have this holler than thou attitude
you have to start talking to your customer's not down to them[;)]

i often say to people that the forums are great but,for every nugget of useful info you get,you have to sift thru a ton of bull**** to get to it.it`s exactly the same with the tuners who get hundreds of customers coming thru their doors with the next great idea.i`ve lost count of the times that i`ve gone to dp and said can we try this only to be told that such and such a person or tuner has tried this and it didn`t work.there are very few genuine ideas that can be used to advance the cause,it`s just the same ideas getting recycled.

timescales:-the tuners can only give estimates for rebuilds etc based on delivery estimates by their suppliers.they also often get emergencies where priorities have to be allocated to every job they have on the go.

we as customers shouldn`t have to get involved in sourcing suppliers, machine shops etc.we should be able to just leave the car and tell the tuner to get on with it.they choose their own suppliers because they are local and can usually be relied on,sometimes they have to use suppliers even if they don`t want to cause there is nobody else.

everyone has to learn somewhere,in saying that,if the person doing the work is not qualified/competent there work should be checked carefully.

everything i say on these forums is said with only good intentions but,i get really pissed off with narrow minded people that won`t try other options.i really hate when all people talk about is hks this or tomei that etc etc.

as for tuners talking down to customers, well that is unforgiveable{?} considering that if it was not for us they would not be in business.poss they get tired of answering the same things day in and day out.

I agree a lot of people are narrow minded when it comes to parts
like hks/tomei, I'll just go for parts that do the job I dont care
who makes them[^].

As for the other stuff I could rant all day about the tuners I'v
delt with some good some not but it doesn't get anybody anywhere
as there never listen anyway so enuff said I think[;)][:D]

as people will know i do a little bit of work on gtir and i can say without exception the work carried out by the so called gtir specialist is crap (one essex based company chargeing for a brand new drive shaft and fitting a non abs secound hand one then is going to try and charge to fix the abs fault) ( another starting with a fitting gauge pods to a pilar charged 6 hrs labour for it to be bolted with odd bolts to the pilar and only one of the three gauges working) leaving bit off when clutch changeing, pumblimg boost gauges to fuel prv's etc etc etc
they just ripe you off and then ripe you off a bit more i dont care what people think of me for saying this as i think that the average gtir owner is not rich and can do without being bent over a barrel every five minutes.
and before anyone say anything im not a expert on tuning but i still now when tuner do dodgy jobs

As it happens mike you and I where talking earlier and as
I was unbolting bits of my engine I found that the rear engine
mount had beed bolted on with the wrong bolts[:(!] I wonderd why it
was loose[V][:(!] they where to big and the wrong thread not only
that but one bolt had a fine thread the other a cause thread[:(!].So
my question is are you going to pay to put this right Simon ie
to drill the holes out and helicoil them and by Simon I mean Norris.[:(!] not bad for just swapping a transfer box loose wishbones missing
bolts and a f*cked transfer caseing all in a days work I spose[:(!][V].

Do you need a seperate boost controller when using a Power FC?

And if you don't have to - can you?

There's an optional module which allows the Power FC to control boost pretty much the same way an AVC-R would do.I'll go for this as I prefer having everything controled by the same unit...and displayed on the same screen (Power FC Controler).

But if you don't want to,you can also use any boost controler of the market...

Just to add something to the debate about tuners:as far as I know, there's no tuning school with exams,graduation,etc... What I mean is that before becoming tuners, most of them were just "regular" people whose hobby was getting extra bhp from stock engines...Some of them maybe were engineers, some were simply mechanics, but none were tuners from the begining...
So except those who always work on the same cars (e.g: Abbey and their Skylines) they're not always more reliable than everyone else. And personaly, being not a beginer in car development,I prefer doing things by myself...And when I really don't know something or don't know which part I should chose,I just go on the net and search for answers...

Isn't there a risk of buying one of these FC things and going to a tuners and asking them to fit and they say "Fit it where you bought it mate"?

How much would one of these cost to have fitted aong with the commander unit? If it meant building a good relationship with a decent tuner then I suppose I'd pay a bit more, although I have church mice calling me a pauper and laughing at me. [V]

Its all fun and games until someone loses a bollock!!!

fitting a Power FC is really easy:it's a five minutes job.Just plug and play.Just a little bit longer if you have the optional boost controler module.

Tuning the PFC is a tuner's job...Unless you gor for the datalogit and a wideband O2 sensor... [;)]

Mental thread... you lot crack me up[:D]

Have settled on a PowerFC, gonna get the RNN14 application[;)] and fully intend to fit myself. I'm told it has a base Map pre-configured to get you started, then will utilise the Dataloggit SW when it's available for Mapping[}:)]

Jobi Joba, what's the deal with needing wide-band 02 sensor [?]
Thanks

tuners tend to use this to measure the air fuel ratio while mapping the car as this gives an indication of max power from any given point in the rev range.they could also go for a lamda reader, whatever that is.
all info above from clive at rc.
