Game over.

So it seems that the pulsar has lost up to 50 PSI compression on 2 cylinders with a slight misfire. It runs but it ain’t going to get better. Of course, there are a number of reasons why. On that note I’ve decided to strip the engine, give it a proper shake down and replace the major parts, skim the head and the like. Basically, starting all over again. New posts on the build thread. It’s a cruel mistress.

Yes, a frustrating annoying PITA, especially now the summer has come round. Nevertheless, hopefully some good weather to do the work in. Once i get it apart i'll be able to report what the offending article or articles were that brought me here.

Well, that's not good news!

Had the engine been rebuilt before?

Sometimes, things like this can be a net benefit, plus you can spec the car a little more and know its future proofed.

At least its not grenaded itself, that would be a much worse outcome!

Tough run Cathode. Andy's right though better to have not grenaded!

I'd be interested to see what caused your failure
Did it happen after some spirited driving? Checked compression with and without oil in the cylinder? Checked coolant pressure for head gasket failure?

Not sure what the cause is yet. I always check oil and water before I go out and it was running fine although I did notice the AFR reading was a little off on idle but I didn’t think too much of it. Went out and gapped a Porsche and not long after limp mode and the EML was on. Didn’t want to go above 2k RPM but would rev freely in neutral. Nursed it home and had my mate take to his workshop. He got it running again but said there’s a slight misfire and compression had dropped on 2 cylinders. Not much water pressure. Oil pressure seemed to be fine. He reckons the head gasket is on its way out. Anyway, it’s the chance to revise the build this time round.
