Excited and worried at the same time!!

Well my R is finally booked into TRL for mapping after being off the road since November last year.

RR mapping sessions have always kind of worried me, anything where you sign a disclaimer first can't be good!!

As with all R's mine has a story.........
Was running fine at 350BHP with my Dastec Unichip amongst other mods of course. Decided I wanted some more boost and thought now was a good time to move to a Z32 MAF. Nobel who I used to map were messing me around and a new place called D-Tech had just opening literally 4 doors from my house (I could hear when my car was on the rollers from my house!) so I thought I'd give them a try.
So I had D-Tech fit me a Haltech e8 with MAP sensor. But whilst it was getting mapped it was smoking. I told them well it can't be the Turbo - I've only just had it rebuilt. So they checked everything else - which was fine. Lots of head scratching. Finally decided to check tubby and it was fooked. My oil pump had pretty much given up and tubby was the first to go.
So I had a new oil pump fitted along with again rebuilt turbo. I was due to go to York raceway with a few mates so asked D-Tech to map it ready to go to York and finish it off later. So on the way to york - the H/G gave up! Well my fault for using a standard gasket when I was rebuilding. So I had a HKS one fitted. In the meantime D-Tech closed down?!? :der::twisted: Gutted.
Cars been sat since waiting for the leaky oil pump sorting and mapping.

Well all jobs done and it's booked in to see Matt at the Racing line next Wednesday at 10am.

Fingers crossed all goes well.

Just having it mapped to 1 bar for now - get some more miles under the tubby then up the boost to maybe 1.4 - 1.5 bar and be happy at that.

I'll do a review of the Haltech and how I've found it once it properly mapped and running.

Took it out for an hour last night though and can't wait to get back behind the wheel.

You don't sign a disclaimer at TRL, so they must be alright

Good luck fella, hope you get the results you're looking for :)

Good luck with it. If you live 4 doors from D-tech I only live about 5 mins away from you. They were previously based in Leeds i believe before moving to Ossett.

It made 327BHP with 329 ft/lbs Torque at 1.2 bar - Which was pretty much what I expected.

It feels fast but then I havent driven it since November 08 so it would do!

Thats decent figures, mines at 317bhp/300ft/lbs @ 1.2/3 bar - whats your spec list? I'm just interested to know where the different is.

Have you got a 3 inch turbo elbow or similar?

as said in pm shaun, i would trust those figures over tdi or a lot of other places!

matt does tend not to be a bhp bullshitter and says it as it is which is a good thing or your just livinga lie.

my car was initially mapped at tdi north (before i owned it) and made 378bhp at 1.3 bar on a 2871 yet when matt did it, it never made that much more at 1.5 bar (380 odd) but i know who i would believe!
mind you the engine was already boogered when he mapped it so who knows what it would have made if all in good order and i also told him to cut revs at 6500 whilst it was still making power, at 7200 it may well have hit almost 400 which i thinks dubious at that boost level on that turbo, but i did tell him that i wasnt looking for bragging figures so he would have had no reason to lie to me, even he was shocked how much power it was putting out so who knows!

to me that seems like an honest true figure at that boost level with those mods

Thats a good result that.
I`m just waiting on my Z32 coming so i can get it booked in and mapped, as its all ran in the now and running sweetly :)

Hi Paz,
Basic run down of my spec is......
The E8, 550 injectors, 3" elbow/downpipe (Made by the TRL) going to a 2.5" exhaust, Forge FMIC with short straight piperun, 86.5mm Wossner forgies, 1.2mm HKS H/G, Walbro, 360 degree bearings in T28.

Is yours still on the standard elbow?

Agreed mate, and it feels fast so who cares about BHP figures anyway. Mines bigger than yours and all that, its pub bragging rights only. It drives well so that that matters!

Yup standard elbow fella, standard engine piston wise just uprated HG, slightly uprated turbo (similar to yours I believe) and mapped using SAFCII and Greddy Profec B-II.

I was happy with my figures, definately pulled a lot harder which was what I was looking for. What did they charge you for the elbow and DP?

Does anyone think a 3 inch elbow and downpipe would make any difference to my set-up?

They charged £280 although I think it took them longer thant hey thought and would probably quote something closer to £320. They originally quoted me £250.

It will make a world of difference mate. Mine felt like a completely different car in that it spools loads quicker and earlier and I get more BHP at same boost, or can lower the boost and still get same results as standard elbow.

At a RR day at TRL a while back, when I was still on the standard elbow - at 1.4 BAR i got 317BHP and 1.6 bar 319BHP. I think the elbow allows for the higher boost to actually make a different. The standard one is really restrictive.

Yes, 3"inch elbow/downpipe is the first mod I would do if I had my time again. Fit a lambda gauge at the same time and map the car yourself on the SAFC. If you get knock then retard your base ignition. Save a load of money and have fun doing it yourself.

Jim - While your high expectations are nice, I wouldn't have the first clue what I was doing mapping the car ;)

I'll look into an elbow and downpipe next then. Do they mate up with a goose or would I need to look at changing that too?

Snoon - Cheers for the info :)

As said on another thread "Pipewerx":lol::lol: Mention, GTIROC, Andy, Stu, Dan, me or a few others and maybe get a discount ;-)

Not the cheapest but it is an elbow and front pipe and they will mate it up to anything. They will also fit a bung near the end of it to install a lambda sensor and ideally go the whole hog and install one for 150 quid. You could log it or you could just get a mate to film your rev counter and AFR's. Where the AFR is below 12 take some fuel off in that rev range, where it is above 12.5, add some fuel. It is pretty simple with your hardware installed.

If the car is running 12 -12.5 AFR on full boost then don't bother taking it near a "tuna". CASH BACK!

mines the same as yours on standard elbow...320bhp at 1.4bar, thinking i need to change mine now too!

Not that I know out, but shouldnt it be nearer 11.5 max at full boost?

also, my uprated elbow/downpipe saw big gains as the revs went up, std elbow/downpipe seems to limit how quick the engine revs out
I changed back to std elbow etc and now power seems linear up rev range rather than exponential;-)
