hope you like

spec is as follows

hks 1.2mm headgasket
acl thrust, main and big end bearings
new small end bearings to fit pistons
full bottom engine balance
arp headstuds
arp main studs
arp rod bolts
arp exhaust manifold studs/bolts
new oil pump
new water pump
thermal inlet gasket
7-layer exhaust manifold gasket
dp motorsport tubular manifold
3071r turbo
a/m performance elbow
turbo and elbow heat wrapped
full samco hose kit for oil cooler/heater
full rear of manifold samco kit
new timing chain tensioner
new timing chain
sard rj fpr and gauge
braided fuel hoses
hks earthing kit
jun lightweight flywheel
helix heavy duty organic clutch kit
braided clutch hose
samco coolant hoses
forge oil seperator
nismo thermostat
z32 maf and 3 inch inlet pipe
16row front mount oil cooler(to fit still)

all built up ready to go in

jun flywheel

back of inlet

all in place

they are only camera phone pics so sorry about the quality

the front intercooler pipe is now sitting much lower so the hose does not touch the manifold, i just need to get it made up in ally now

i managed to get the old engine out and the new one in all in 1 saturday at work but it took 2 hours to get the gearbox back on lol;-)

Have you looked into it at all, to see where its coming from. I'm just going to pop the sump off for a look, it's not costing anything apart from an oil change, at least then ill know if it is the big ends, and if not it will be peice of mind that the bottom ends ok. Checked the top end all seems ok.

Are you running forged pistons?I think i read somewhere that you can sometimes hear them lightly slap about under light load due to the shorter skirts on some pistons?
God know if its true?

looks good all the samco blues,
thats an area i should really cover, before upping the boost, ive got a few rad hoses etc,but could do with a setup like yours.tbh

it really wasnt hard to be honest the two newer samco kits cover most of it and then i just measured the old hoses and rang thinkauto up and they sorted me out the rest with discount as well lol

Getting 400 reliable Bhp

I have allready done some mods on my R as described here:
http://www.gtiroc.com/forums/showthread.php?t=52852
I have also an organic Exedy clutch, lightened flywheel and
upgraded brakes.
My goal is to achieve 400 Bhp that can be used without
making the car unsafe in any way.
I want the engine to be trouble free and I don't want to risk
my gearbox being destroyed.
Is it possible to get this done? I really wonder as I have two
options; continue to build my R or buy a different brand with
higher performance figures.
First thought to reaching the goal is bigger turbo, injectors
and a remapped ECU.
Don't know if the engine needs to be reinforced in anyway or
if the gearbox would take the pounding.
Hope you can point me in the right direction on what
needs to be done.

Reliable is the keyword here.

If you want reliable then build a forged engine and stick a 3071 on it. The standard engine can take 400bhp properly set up, but it wouldn't last as long as a forged engine.

Gearbox will depend on how you treat it. Quaife internals would be a recommended minimum.

Hi there - first thing to consider is what you consider doing with the car ; fast road use and occasional track use and gearbox should be fine, but if you're drag racing then that will hammer the 'box (tho mine lasted 4 years of drag starts before going bang).

Also be aware that as you put more power into the car, then the wallet has to come out for other things - brakes etc etc

400bhp or thereabouts is obtainable without spending insane amounts of cash - but before you start is the engine in good condition? Anyway, my spec is as follows and I'm running 380bhp & 325 lb/ft of torque at 1.6 bar - and the turbo has more to give...

Completely standard engine (top and bottom end), done 150,000km.
Z32 AFM
Quaife Gearbox with Helix Organic Clutch and Lightened Flywheel
GT2871R Turbo
Janspeed Turbo back 3" Exhaust incl turbo elbow.
Tubular Manifold (made in the UK, not a $hitty ebay one from china!).
550 cc Injectors
Evo 6 FMIC
Apex'i Type Air Filter
Dastek Unichip
GReddy Profec B Boost Controller
Blitz Turbo Timer
Brembo 4 pots with 305mm plain discs (from a Seat Cupra R - brackets from Godspeed)
GAB Suspension
Nismo Strut Brace

The engine itself should be fine, but if in doubt have it checked out by a friendly mechanic - compression tested etc etc. If you need any more info just PM me.

Cheers,

donpulsar :)

Thanks alot for the great info guys :)
I have upgraded brakes and the engine has done 26000 Km.
Is the GT2871R Turbo the standard one?
What boost are you running?
The unichip, is that some kind of remapping alternative?
My exhaust is 2.5", but if i find 3" I will concider it.
I am also about to fit a wideband lambda to monitor fuel.
As I work for Nissan mechanics are easy to find.

No, it's an uprated turbo.
He says 1.6bar in his post.;-) (I'd stick with the 3071 for 400+ as it will make the same power for less boost, hence lower temps and more reliabilty)
Yes, it's a daughterboard that is fitted to the ECU and mapped.

Thanks again :) Would be nice to find an upgraded bolt on turbo.
I am new to this stage of tuning, hence the stupid questions haha :)
Guess a 3" exhaust system needs to be custom built as I have not
seen anyone producing it...

For 400+ HP theres no direct bolt on as the flanges change from T25 type to T3 type (Bigger) and more than likely you would now be using an external gate so again not direct replacement.

There are a few people offering a true 3" system and for 400-500hp you should be looking at 3"-4" in any car.

Andy @ AM Performance in Auz is someone who can produce a quality system for your needs at a good price do a search on the Grp buy I Ran and you will see or he is also on Feebay now and 2 weeks ago I received a custom de-cat off him so he can make what you want

;-) ;-)

GT3071R uses a T2 flange and is 400+ capable internal gated and direct bolt on?!

4" exhaust is pointless at 400bhp maybe 600+bhp.

The GT2871R is a straight forward bolt on - will fit the standard manifold fine. As the guys have said, the GT3071 is probably the one to go for for 400bhp+, tho will prob. need a a bit of work to fit - nothing too serious i don't think.

(As for me running the GT2871R, a mate was returning his R to standard and wanted a quick sale on his turbo, so i got the GT2871R with tubular manifold for £500 - i wasn't gonna turn it down at that price! :D)
